Ascend

Ascend continues Rowe’s exploration of haptics and form. Sculpture has an inherent connection with time; the works in Ascend have required nearly two years to complete. Works are both glazed and unglazed; the surfaces have been developed specifically for these works. Various clay bodies have been used to create the forms.

Whilst the works are technically careful and resolved, they have a paradoxically poetic resonance. Offering multiple viewpoints, the works include stairs, voids, gateways, bridges, corridors and paths of various scale. The intimacy of the artworks is an invitation to look closely, cross thresholds and to be curious about the invisible and unknowable. They suggest ever changing movement toward a source or beginning.

ASCEND was exhibited with Hub Furniture in 2018.
